What is cleft Lip and palate

Cleft lip and palate are orofacial malformations that occur very early in pregnancy. Cleft palate is the splitting in the roof of the mouth that can involve the hard palate as well as Soft palate.

In Pakistan, more than 9000 cleft lip and palate patients are born every year. More than 70000 cleft patients are un operated still waiting for surgery since many years.

Causes

1. Genetic and environmental factors
2. Certain medications during pregnancy (e.g. anti seizure drugs, accutane containing drugs, methotrexate, cancer, arthritis and psoriasis drugs).
3. Viruses and chemicals
4. Radiation

Treatment

Cleft Lip and palate patients are treated successfully in our facility.

NAM

Nasoalveolar moulding is done from the day one in our facility. Infants come once a week and their palate is moulded till the cleft size is almost zero. The nasal deformity is also corrected during the same period.

CLEFT ADOLECENTS AND ADULT ORTHODONTICS

Patients are treated successfully in our facility with orthodontic alignment and later teeth restorations including implants and bridges if required.
